Ending One Chapter and Starting a New One

It’s that time. I can hardly believe it, but it’s true. After over 37.5 years of working at Schuylkill Veterinary Hospital and almost thirty years of sole ownership, I am retiring! It is sobering to realize that I will no longer be caring for pets belonging to people have been with me since day one on Second Street in Pottsville. It has been an honor and a privilege to provide care for thousands of pets over the years.

The hospital will undergo a few changes during January 2021. Most of the team will remain here including Karen, Jackie and Kathy, having over thirty years each with the hospital. Margaret is  retiring after nineteen years. The hospital will have a new name along with a new doctor.

I am so happy that a Schuylkill County native, Dr Jessica Walters, will be the new owner of the practice that has been my life for so long. Turning the reins over to her enthusiastic leadership will be a smooth transition for clients. Dr Walters will  provide stellar care and compassion for hospital patients and clients.

So what will I be doing? I am thrilled to have more time to spend with my animals. And, I think, they will be happy to see more of me. I will continue to show my RagaMuffin cats, judge Labradors at American Kennel Club shows and ride my retired show horse on the trails. Without a doubt, I will still be a veterinarian at heart; after all,  it is not only what I am, but who I am.
