The Times They Are A Changin’

Schuylkill Veterinary Hospital has some significant changes happening in the next couple of weeks. Two long term team members are adjusting their lives. Kathy Lishman, the hospital manager, will be retiring from full time status after thirty-four years as a vital member of the team. Kathy has been manager since 1991. She is reducing her work week to two days a week in order to spend more time with her husband Chuck. Sadly, most of her work will take her upstairs in the hospital, so our clients won’t be seeing her much anymore.

In addition, Dr Paul Kerns will be headed into retirement with his wife Merlyn making a move across the globe to the Philippines. Dr Kerns has worked part time at Schuylkill Veterinary Hospital for longer than either of us can remember. He has been an integral part of the team as well.

Both of these people have stood by me through thick and thin. They are much more than employees. They are friends, advisors and supporters. Honestly, I am nervous about the changes. I know life goes on and we will stumble our way into a new normal.  In the twilight of my career, I know there will be more changes to come. Heraclitus said “There is nothing permanent except change”. It’s up to me to make the most of it.
